John was born on the 16th of April 1972. At the age of five he began riding in motorcross, changing to road racing at the age of 18.
Johns first race bike was a 1992 TZ250 he bought with the money he made from collecting mussels in his home town of Morecambe Bay. Bricklaying was Johns trade until his talents for motorcycle racing were recognised. He was inspired from an early age by the likes of Steve Hislop and Joey Dunlop,and believed that one day he would be
racing alongside them. This dream certainly came true as Johns T.T. debut in 1996 won him the best newcomer award.He finished 3rd in the lightweight 250 race in 1997 and again in 1998. 1999 saw John become the British 250cc champion and the following year he won his second T.T title in the singles race. 2004 was an exciting year for the Morecambe rider as he was drafted into the Hawk Kawasaki squad half way through the season to replace
Now a member of the official HM Plant Honda, John scored his second successive top six finish in round three of the National Superstock Championship at Thruxton, Hampshire, on Easter Monday. With his 11th T.T. victory achieved there are only two other T.T. riders records to better, these are Mike Hailwood with 14 T.T.s and Joey Dunlop with an amazing 26 T.T. wins.
